It's no that she's forgotten them, it's just that her prominence in American youth culture is not as strong as it used to be. The American culture is very urban, and intelligent pop music is not respected so much anymore. It's funny because a lot of todays hot young urban stars quote M as a major influence - Beyonce, Rihanna, Missy Elliot, Chris Brown, and of course Justin Timberlake. It's curious to see how their collaboration is going to pay off...
It is the youth who are the record buying market, the main demographic, so it's more a case of her being forgotten, not her forgetting them. Her American market is those who grew up with her, people in their late 20's, 30's & 40's. She is still loyal to those fans. I see this new album as a stab at capturing the American youth, but hey, who knows... We'll see!!
